Pahalgam valley is located at the confluence of Lidder River and the streams originating from serene Sheshnag Lake. Aru Valley

Aru Valley is a small yet self-sufficient scenic village located 15 km from Pahalgam. The drive up to the village is alluring too. The location of the village among the grasslands, make this place a tourist delight. It is reachable by walking along a mountain path. The village also serves as the start point for trekking to Kolahoi glacier. Another long trek for the serious trekker is to Sonmarg, which can be covered in 3 days! Besides, the valley is also known to be a good site for camping. Instead of taking the regular pony ride it is recommended that tourists explore the surrounding valley on foot to get a full sense of its beauty.

Betaab Valley

Located on the way to Chandanwari, the valley was named Betaab after the Bollywood movie by the same name! Earlier known as Hajan Valley, after the release of the movie, it was renamed as major part of the movie was shot here.

Chandanwari

This is at a distance of 15 KM from Pahalgam. It will take 30 minutes to reach Chandanwari. The road passes through old Pahalgam town with traditional Kashmiri houses. At your right side Lidder river will be flowing and you will be passing through hills and bend roads. Many waterfalls will be there at both sides of the road. These falls are created by melting ice from the snow peaks. Lidder river will be flowing from Chandanwari towards Pahalgam. There is a small market where all essential items including medicines are available. You can get some few camera accessories and batteries for your gadgets in this market. Usually this market became more active before Amarnat Yatra which starts from end of June or July and continues till end of August.

At the end of the market there is a big Ice glacier here with a thick layer of ice . Water flows below the glacier. This is the ideal spot for tourist to enjoy snow even in end summer. Local made sledge is available here for skating over the ice.

Starting point of Sri Amarnath Yatra
Pahalgam is also famous for Sri Amarnath Yatra, this town became busy during June to August as a base camp before starting the trek from Chandanwari 15 KM from Pahalgam.

Road to Amarnath at ChandanwariAt a height of 9500 ft Chandanwari is also famous for Sri Amarnath Yatra. Chandanwari is the end point of road journey and devotes has to trek 32 KM to reach holy cave of Sri Amarnath. Horses are available at a rate of Rs 3500 to 4000 on both ways to visit the cave. Dandi or Doli is also available for a price or Rs 7000 to 15000/. All prices are negotiable and depend on demand.
